Agents Hatch Plan to Avoid Uganda Mobile Money Tax

Mobile Money agents have lobbed an ultimatum back towards the Uganda government and mobile network operators, asserting that they will perform tax-free agent to agent transactions if the 1% tax on transactions is not reppealed. The basis for the argument is not against the imposition of tax but an opposition to what agents claim amounts to double taxation, as the country's Excise Duty (Amendment) Act 2018 - raised from 10% to 15% - is also imposed upon certain mobile money transactions.
