Communications Act 1998


This Act ensures the availability of reliable and affordable communication services throughout Malawi, and the existence of an Authority with sufficient competence to supervise the demand for these services. The Authority will protect the interests of consumers, purchasers and other users of communication services in respect of the prices charged for the quality and variety of services provided and terminal equipment supplied.

This Act promotes open access to information by means of communication services, promotes efficiency and competition, encourages the introduction of new communication services, promotes research in telecommunications, and fosters the development of communications services and technology in accordance with recognized international standards.
