General Law of Cooperatives No. 499


This Law establishes the rules regulating the promotion, constitution, authorization, functioning, integration, dissolution and termination of cooperatives in Nicaragua. Amongst its main provisions, it establishes the main principles and requirements underlying cooperatives' legal constitution. Cooperatives are forbidden from giving unfair advantage to their board and executives teams. Appointed officers are forbidden from forming part of other entities' governing bodies. The document discusses the main guidelines for the formation and management of cooperative boards.
