The Micro Finance Deposit-Taking Institutions Act, 2003


This Law provides for the licensing, regulation and supervision of micro finance business in Uganda and provides for matters connected with or incidental to the foregoing. This document details all the necessary procedures required for micro finance deposit-taking institutions to establish and operate adequately.

Some of this procedures include licensing, restrictions of certain transactions and dealings by micro finance deposit-taking institutions, ownership and corporate governance requirements, supervision, receivership and liquidation. Micro finance businesses must acquire a valid licence granted by the Central Bank authorising it to conduct business in Uganda. Licensing must happen prior to any operations.
